The old "Vacation Thread" seems to have gone the way of the dodo and since so many are arriving here, I thought a new thread to take a break and discuss just about anything not related to marriage problems and infidelity might be in order.

Like any pot luck, what you find is entirely up to what people bring to the table. The only topics that are off the table are on topic discussions. Swap recipes, tell a story, complain about your boss (but never your spouse) and just hang out. Greet old friends, catch up on what's up or whine about the weather.

If you don't like the subject, change it to whatever you like and say what's on your mind. New stuff, old stuff, serious stuff or silly stuff, the choice is up to you what goes on this thread.

With luck, we'll drag a couple of folks who are dragging their feet into the daylight with the rest of us.

Share you lunch.
Share your life.
Share your friends.

Share your friend's lunch if you'd like.

Just be sure you share...

I'll be watching to see what you have to share.

I have some complaints about my boss, but I don't think I have any complaints about my boos. Or my hoos. They're all doing pretty well, thankyouverymuch.

I have no boos. Not much in the way of hoos either. My only complaint is a vendor who is so s.l.o.w. that my contract is getting grey hairs.

Speaking of them, I am growing the golden blonde out and discovered I am silver underneath. Now that just aint fair!

I've been robbed!

Since Manny isn't actually speaking any language the reporters actually understand (he's refusing to speak English...In protest I guess over something or other) nobody's quoting him, that's for sure.

He still has about 10 minutes left...

Lil,

Manny is one of those over paid, under worked whining complainers who get paid massive amounts of money to play a game kids pay for the privilege of playing and then have to sell ten thousand candy bars to pay for the rest.

He's a baseball player, or so they tell me, and he was just let go by Chrys's favorite team (I think they have learned something from his stay with them) and picked up by one of the teams in Chicago, who have the most obnoxious fans on the planet and think he is going to push them over the edge so that they can win their division and the playoffs and become World Series champions.

So his first day with the new team he refused to speak English. He's done commercials, so it isn't that he can't (he got paid for those, too) I'm not so sure the bonding with his new teammates is going so well, but the fans think he's the second coming of Babe Ruth.

But that boy can sure hit the baseball a long way...

If he wasn't such a clown the rest of the time, we'd take him on the North side of town.

Here's a link to his post-game interview. Last Night's Winner

Mark

I can't really complain about my boss - I've had pretty good luck with the last couple of bosses, good people to work for.

Hi RHW, So glad you put spaces between your names....I thought you were Right THERE Waiting for the longest time on that other forum.

I'm getting ready to go on Vacation...for real, but thought I'd drive by to say "Hi" on my way. Maybe I'll have my lap-top on vacation. If so, I'll chat then.

Great seeing you, too. dancing

I put spaces in to avoid exactly that ongoing confusion. When I chose the name, I determined to be "Right HERE Waiting" after FWH left. Reference 1989 song by Richard Marx. That ditty chokes me up to this day.

Have a wonderful vacation!

Since the Mariners aren't going anywhere this year (not a new thing) and the Twins (who are my #2 team) have a shot, I say, 'Keep on pouting, Manny.'

Maybe we can have cookout in the form of a tailgate this weekend, as college football kicks-off (Go Dawgs!) and the WNBA conference finals continue. (Go Storm!)

dancing I love that little dancing guy you got there, Ace. dancing

Go DAWGS? No, no, no, no! Around here, we say Go 'Cats (since son is in college there) or better yet, Go Ducks! It's all Pac10 all the time though.

Soon to be the Pac-11, OH.

While I also back the conference 9-times-out-of-ten, rooting for U of O football?... Yikes. Maybe during bowl season. And it'll take me a long time to cheer for Colorado.

I'm not, Lil. But we can make a game kind of like musical chairs where we all drive around the parking lot and when the music stops, see how close we are to each other. Closest without hitting, wins.

Tailgating before a big (usually sporting) event in the U.S. is where you park your vehicle in a lot, pull down the tailgate or open the trunk or the camper door, and eat like there's no tomorrow. For some, it's a ritual that lasts hours before a game or a race. There's the simple -- http://www.chuckmargiotta.com/gallery/uploads/images/Tailgating.jpg -- and then there's adapting it into your lifestyle -- http://news.draftmag.com/files/2008/12/new_ultimate_tailgating_machine_1.jpg. There's an entire website dedicated to it -- http://tailgating.com.

I'm trying to watch what I eat so I'll bring the chicken, veggie tray, and Michalob Ultra. I know these aren't "real" tailgating foods, but I figure I can pick at what the rest of y'all bring too.

Lil, tailgating is an American pasttime. For some, it's actually better than the game itself. I've seen full blown coach-sized busses w/ satellite dishes, AC, flat screen TVs, and elaborate looking grills. Companies set up huge tents for invites only...lots of food and drink. For college football (I'm not big on NFL), it's an all-day event! High school tailgates are a bit simpler.

BTW, some people never actually make it into the event itself and sit the whole thing out in the parking lot watching it on TV.

ACC rocks, BTW.

Tailgating food is:

Bratwurst...cooked over charcoal is preferred but propane is tolerable if you have a big rig motorhome or a big screen TV. The preferred condiments on a brat on a bun includes spicy mustard, maybe raw onions or the onions that were in the pot they were boiled in beer in before putting them on the grille. Ketchup will get you beat up in some circles and relish is for hot dogs, not brats.

Beer...Usually a local brand, snobs who drink micro brews only usually are fans of the other team anyway.

Hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, grilled vegetables like zucchini, bell peppers, hot peppers, sweet corn, thick slices of onion etc are also usually to be found.

In much Louisiana and parts of Texas, a crawfish or shrimp boils is the food of choice with potatoes, sweetcorn, carrots, celery, as much garlic as you have room for and about 5 pounds of cayenne pepper or two gallons of Louisiana Hot Sauce. All this is washed down with a Turbo Dog, Abita Blue or Purple Haze beer.

Before a NASCAR Sprint Cup race event, the tailgating can be a pot luck with nearly 100 thousand people involved. It's like Christmas dinner with more to drink. For the first race of the season at Daytona the party literally lasts two weeks leading up to the race.

Companies even make gasoline powered blenders to make mixed drinks and coolers in team colors are almost mandatory.

For a playoff game for the NFL, officials have to make public announcements that no tailgating will be allowed until 48 hours before the start of the game because fans will show up a week early if you let them.

At U of Florida (CHOMP CHOMP) more people attend the tailgate parties than actually go to the football games and the stadium has been sold out for last 30 years and the next 20 as well. In places like Green Bay, parking places are now used by the grandchildren of those who first parked there to have a cookout before the game.

And just so you know...

Most people ignore the whole thing and have never been to a tailgate party anywhere at all.
