Hi MAers,

It's been over 5 years since we last took a look at the forums we offer (such as "Infidelity and Abandonment" and "Troubled Marriage") and how they are organized.

We're Overdue for Another

Do we have too many forums?
Too few forums?
Do the forums make sense to you?
Are they easy to navigate?
Do the forum titles make sense to you?

I have a lot of questions around this, but I also don't want to ask too many leading questions. I want to solicit your honest feedback.

What are your thoughts?

The only thing that comes immediately to mind would be to rename the "Enough is Enough!" forum to something along the lines of:

Boundaries: How to stand up for yourself

or

Your Happiness is Important: How to get it back

Something to start with...

I like the "boundaries" idea. That forum is a good place to discuss them, too.
Thanks, Oblivious!

There are too many forums for me. I'm one of the folks who looks for new posts on the Active Topics page instead and misses announcements that are put in the header of the Forum List.

I thought Enough is Enough was a great name, but no one posts there, so I would understand the name change there.

AR I'm looking forward to hearing your suggestions.

I just glanced through all the forums and

The Lighthouse forum has not been posted on since 2014.

Maybe we could combine it with some other forum

Also the Programs, Forums and Book Reviews forum and OTHER GUIDES does not get used all that much again I would suggest combining it into another forum/header.

My two main concerns are:

1.) Number of forums (is it confusing? How do we make it easy to use?)
2.) Forum titles...we have some clever forum titles, but they are not SEO optimized for people who search for keywords and might be confusing to newcomers.

Good point. Agree we should address that.

I think there are way too many forums and I have always thought it was difficult to navigate. And a couple of people I sent here over the years told me they couldn't figure it out.

I will give it some thought and offer my suggestions since you asked.

My suggestions

Bulletin board as is

MARRIAGE HELP AND SUPPORT
1. Troubled marriage
2. Infidelity and abandonment
3. Enough is enough changed to Taking back your Happy (or some such )

CARPORT
1. Carport

Change Way Station to On Becoming Unwayward ( or some such ) I would put this as number 4 under marriage help and support if it can be noted as a safe place for waywards or former waywards.

Get rid of the MOVING ON forum completely

CREATIVE DISCUSSIONS
1. Blogging
2. Peer counseling
3. Blended Families

ORIGINAL WORKS AND MARRIAGE RESOURCES
1. Memorable posts
2. Marriage news

THUNDERDOME as is

Get rid of advocates area

Add a few more milliseconds of "hover" time before the top ribbon triggers the drop down lists. I frequently mouse up toward the "Marriage Advocates >> Forums" button only to overshoot slightly and then the "Marriage Support Forum" drop down covers up the button I am aiming for.

Solutions? There are none. There are decisions.

I agree, or maybe we could put that line at the top of the box above Marriage Advocates.

What are some SEO optimized words and phrases that would benefit our site, Help us consolidate our forums and make MA more user-friendly overall?

Thanks,
Ace

SEO Optimization tends to take a look at the actual phrases that people type into a search engine to find their results. So, the forum headings would be much more literal.

Some of ours are, such as Infidelity & Abandonment. Some not so much, like the Way Station.

So what forums could possibly be combined? Any suggestions?

Would expanding "Way Station" to "Way Station-Help for the Unfaithful Spouse" help with SEO efforts? We could expand other forum names to be more descriptive without confusing people who know them as they are currently named.

I think that's going in the right direction.

I think some that would be easy to merge would be the Moving On 3 into 1, and Visiting Room
