All,

I'm working to update our Custom Islands (those boxes on the sides of the forum). You may notice that I changed 'Community Meter' to 'Community Information'.

As I might make a typo or two (as I just did), you may experience some display anomalies tonight. Just know that I'm testing as I go along, and I'm already working to fix it. Wait a moment or two and refresh your screen.

My apologies for any inconvenience.

~AR

So, I updated the very much outdated animated fire icon next to 'Trending Topics'. Please feel free to give your feedback on changes you notice.

I thought the flames were rather "quaint" lol

I actually like the flames...and I like animated gifs. The sad truth is that these are the web design equivalent of a fimo ring, though.

I openly admit I know very little about anything computer or internet related, so this might be a crazy question. I noticed earlier that there were "70 Spiders online". What is a spider (online, I know about the other kind)?

Spiders are webcrawling programs. They follow the links in web pages to "crawl" the internet and index it's contents for search engines. Since they crawl around the web, they are called spiders. smile

So they are good in that they allow people searching the internet to find your site, right?

Most of them are good. I have banned a few, as they eat up too much bandwidth and processing power compared to their value. Baidu (Chinese Search Engine) would be one of those.
