I'm back home, just caught up a little on sleep in my own bed (it's just impossible to sleep in a hospital, I think) and I'm already feeling 1000% better than I have for the last couple of months.

Wow. I had not realized how foggy my cognition had gotten. I was dealing with a problem here at work, and it was easy again, instead of feeling like I was fighting through mud and still not getting anywhere. My boss really appreciated that I dug deeper and found the root cause of the problem. I feel like I'm getting back to my old self.

I'm also finding more energy to do things, though I've fallen into a rut where if I don't have to be somewhere I'm sleeping in and being lazy all weekend. I am tackling that this weekend by scheduling a massage for 8am tomorrow morning. Then I have stuff to get done around the house and some work to do for the office because I took off early a couple days this week.

Munchkin is doing great, just finished her freshman year of HS with good grades (haven't gotten the final report card yet but it's looking like all A's except a couple of B's). She also broke up with her first real boyfriend because he was too clingy and needy and has huge self esteem issues. In her words "it was too much work to be in a relationship with him, and he was making all his happiness about me, and that's not healthy".

I had a first date with a guy who seems promising. He's tall, good looking, intelligent, funny... we have a lot of things in common and we talked for 2 hours straight over dinner. He wanted to lock in a 2nd date before we left the restaurant. (Yay!) So we're seeing a movie next week. Dunno yet where this will go (if anywhere) but I'm enjoying being pursued.

I am also attending an annual party at a friend's house in a couple of weeks - which I don't normally go to - there will be lots of people there whom I don't know, or I've only met briefly. I'm not expecting any love connections there (most of them are coupled) but it's expanding my social circles which is important to me on both the friendship and the potential date front.

On the school front, I am taking conversational Spanish III during the 2nd summer session. I think I'm crazy. BUT, I'm hoping to get my fall nursing clinical assignment at the county hospital, and would like to be more conversational than I am now. I ordered my book ahead of time so I can try to get back up to speed before SII starts. My schedule for the fall will be tight, but I already gave my boss a heads up about it, and she's not thrilled, but is ok with it. I'm really looking forward to it, since this is the semester we go to the ER and ICU. I'm hoping to impress the ER staff and get an "in" there.

I'm also committing (again) to getting healthy starting now. I'm feeling good enough to start exercising and cooking at home again, so I'm hoping to start seeing the weight come off.

Well, that's all that's new in TAC-land. grin

Well, I've come to a hard conclusion and decision.

With the medical stuff that's piled on so far this year, I'm way behind in my plans to pay off all my credit cards by the end of the year. Without that payoff, I cannot afford to take the pay cut to change to a nursing job.

I talked to the admissions specialist at the school I'm planning to do my BSN through, and found out that I do NOT have to be working in the medical field in order to do the bridge program, as I'd previously thought. I will have to find someplace willing to let me volunteer (like a nursing home) to complete some of my assignments, but that's completely do-able.

So, barring a financial windfall, I won't be moving to a hospital job in the spring as I'd wanted to do. I'll continue working here until I graduate with my BSN. This will let me pay off more than just the credit cards, I should also be able to pay off my car and pay cash for Munchkin's car in March. That will leave me with just my house note by the time I graduate. It will also see me 100% vested in the company matching money for my 401k. Also, this means I'll be going out on the medical job market about the same time Munchkin graduates from High School, which will leave me free to relocate if needed.

It's not ideal, but I think it's going to put me in a better position in the long run. And, should anything happen to my current job in the meantime, I will have my RN which gives me more options.

Sounds like things fell into place where they fit. May not be ideal, but it works with your current goals and life. Strange how that just seems to happen. That's good news for you! cool

Good lord, I am so positive these days, it's almost annoying! smirk

So today's been ups and downs, mostly downs.

I have got to learn to not internalize things people say to me. A friend made a comment to me today and I'm pretty sure in my head it was just informational - how he felt about something I had a part in. I've been ruminating about it all day, and all my CBT work is helping a little, but I can't seem to shake it. So I came home in a funk and pretty much vegged out in front of the TV and got NOTHING done I'd planned to do.

So before I headed to bed, I clicked on YouTube to try and find something uplifting.

The first item I found in my subscriptions just ripped my heart out.

But then I found Matt for 2012:

thought I'd share. smile

Thanks for the video links TAC! I hadn't heard of CBT work before, so I looked it up, and it was something I have done with an IC before, too, how cool there's a name for it! Are you feeling any better?

Well, woke up with a migraine, but have a full day and no time for it, so I took meds and am hoping the drive in isn't stressful.

Unfortunately, my day can't end until about 8pm. I am here working until 1pm, then I have to drive my Munchkin to the doctor because I think her cold morphed into a sinus infection, and she's leaving Sunday for a week long trip with her aunt, I don't want her sick for it. Then I have to drive into the next town for an informational seminar on one of my options for my BSN program. Then I have to come home and fix dinner and try to not flop on the couch and zone out to the TV like I have been.

My migraine has eased with the 2nd bout of medications, so now it just feels like a "hatband" tension headache. Better than where I started this morning.

I had to go see my old doc day before last to get my scripts all re-written because my internist fired me as a patient (I got testy with her staff when they said they couldn't get me in for 3 weeks after I'd been in the ER the night before and was sent home with an active cardiac problem, so she fired me as a patient) and the scales confirmed what I already pretty much knew - I'm now well over 100 lbs overweight. I don't *look* that overweight because I'm tall, but it's there, and I'm feeling every pound of it. I have to get real serious, real quick about getting this weight off.

This week just has been one thing after another piled on me, which is why the "supposedtobes" really just tore at me when it came up on my YouTube subscription. I don't like feeling like this, and am trying to get out of the slump. I keep telling myself tomorrow will be a better today. smile

Go home and take a walk with your daughter. And tomorrow, and the next day...and keep going while she's out of town. You can lose lots of weight simply by walking.

I have to keep reminding myself that I'm doing the best that I can. I repeat that over and over and over sometimes.

I also learned that if I sit down I'm not going to get anything done. Last night I had a laundry list of things to do and I was exhausted and stressed and grumpy and I just wanted to watch tv. I kept on my feet anyway...until 10:30, when I finally allowed myself to sit. By then I'd crossed a huge chunk of stuff off the list....and I was too tired to watch tv so I went to bed.

Just don't forget to wear comfy shoes/slippers if you try that.

Good luck.

TGIF.

My headache finally stopped yesterday during my seminar. I went home and Munchkin wanted me to play Rock Band with her, so we did that for a couple of hours and then I actually fixed dinner. Still didn't get any housework done, but I'll work on that this weekend. smile Spending time with Munchkin was more important. grin

Update time.

I totally failed at NaNoWriMo camp for June (it's a novel writing challenge to get 50k words in a month - I've never succeeded). Don't think I'll try in August because I'll be finishing up Spanish III in a summer session and get a whole ONE WEEK OFF before starting my "complex" semester for nursing school. (That's the semester we get to do ICU and ER.)

A friend from nursing school who currently works in a hospital as a patient tech actually told me something that makes me feel a lot better about my financial/work choices. Apparently it'll be even easier to get a job as a new grad if I'm willing to work part-time PRN. So I may not even have to volunteer my time somewhere to get my hands-on stuff for my BSN program, and picking up one or two shifts a week.

Munchkin is reluctantly going to spend 2 weeks with her Dad this month. He finally got a job (yay) with the local university, which happens to be where her German immersion program is for 2 weeks. The hours were such that it was going to be a problem for me to get her to and from, but with him working there it all works out except that she hates spending time with him. I keep hoping they'll work this out, but it's just getting worse. If I had a more flexible schedule I'd just figure it out, but at some point in life she needs to learn that there are times when we just have to suck it up. smirk

My house is a right disaster area, and when Munchkin and I get back from spending the 4th with my parents, I'm going to buckle down and get it sorted before I start Spanish class on the 9th.

Work is going really well, now that my brain is perfusing properly, and I feel like my boss has regained her trust in my performance.

Health-wise I've not felt better in a long time, except the heat really does me in, and it's now summer in Texas. I'm going to have to start getting up early to get things done because by the time I get home from work, I'm completely beat. Saw my cardiologist last week, and he's very pleased with my results. I don't need to see him again until next year for another 24-hour monitoring, unless something starts up again. However, my FP confirmed that I'm now 130 lbs overweight, and my focus now has to be getting that off and getting healthy again.

Cat - if the heat wouldn't kill me, I could probably manage it. I seriously have zero tolerance for the heat. I'm going to start getting up earlier and at least get some time in on the stationary bike and hopefully add a little resistance band training.

There's noplace to really do that, especially since I can't do stairs with my knee. Years ago I used to work at the Infomart in Dallas and it was gorgeous architecture with lots of levels overlooking at main court and I used to go walking on my lunch hour. My current building is converted light industrial, and is packed to the gills with cubicles.

My stationary bike is just sitting by my desk, waiting to be used so it's all good, I just have to get up early and do it.

Right now I'm packing to spend a couple days at my parents and plan to make plenty of use of their swimming pool. smile

Hey, everyone! Thought I'd check in.

I am in the last couple of weeks of nursing school, and have been able to come up for air! My final is on the 7th and my pinning (more important than graduation for nurses) is on the 13th. Then I just get to worry and fret until I can take my State Boards in January (hopefully).

I have an interview on Thursday with the hospital and department of my dreams. I still don't know how I'll work out the finances if I get the job, but I will figure it out.

Munchkin is still doing well - struggling a bit more in school this year as her social calendar gets more full, but she's still doing great and keeping her eye on her goals. She's actually becoming a decent driver and I don't think I'll have too much anxiety turning her loose in March when she turns 16. She's toying with going into some aspect of the medical profession at this point instead of aerospace, but I'm going to wait until she's closer to graduation to see where she actually lands.

On the dating front, I signed up for Geek to Geek thinking I might find a better demographic of guys there. It's really the same-old, same-old. I will have what I thought was a great first date with a guy, and then he drops off the face of the planet. Or I'll have a date that I thought was pretty lame, and the guy thought it was fantastic and keeps contacting me. And *so* many complete losers messaging me on OKC. I started off trying to reply to anyone who messaged me, but after a while, I quit trying. If they seem nice and appear to have actually READ my profile, I generally will answer them, even if it's to nicely let them know I appreciate it but I'm not interested.

I realized that I have never really done the "dating" thing. All of my previous romantic entanglements have been through my social circles. So I think I just really didn't have a concept of how much chaff you have to sort through to get to the wheat. It's hard work!!

I have, however, confirmed that I simply cannot be with anyone shorter than me. I tried to loosen my qualifications for a few really nice guys, and it just won't work. Shallow, perhaps, but it's just me.

A new guy started messaging me in the last couple of days, and he seems really smart and funny (and he's tall) so we'll see where it goes. I try not to get too excited until I get a call for a 2nd date!!

Hope everyone is doing well! I'll try to get online a bit more frequently now that I have come up for air!

Congratulations, early! That's great. I was going through my jewelry box this weekend and I found my mom's nursing pin. I love that thing! smile

btw, if your chica does think more toward aerospace, look me up and I'll see if I can get her a tour at JSC. btw, they have an AMAZING work/study program for college students.
