This old debacle?

Today my carpenter returns to check to see what needs to be done. Do you think he will notice?
Good friend who hires trades for everything believes the set/ wall repair would have costs thousands to do.

I'm just glad I dodged a bullet about this install. Hopefully, things will go as planned with the excavator and the sewer line tomorrow. He promised that he will not charge extra, no matter what. Pshew.

Blair: They said the tear is only 50% - apparently that is not so bad. I have arthritis in my neck and the nerves involved with that travel through the same area. So it is probably a 50/50 thing.

It is time to rest and recuperate now. Take the 50/50 odds and get them more to your favor. No lifting with the injured arm for a week or two! smile

You’re a badass WUD, no doubt about it. But you’re going to really damage yourself eventually. (Sigh) I don’t want to try to dull your shine though. Rock on with yo bad self! Honestly I don’t see any reason to stop until you actually DO the damage.

Miranda and Blair: I know my limitations. I just don't really care about them sometimes.

I realllllly did not want to set this door. That's why I waited for enough $$$ to have it done. Never expecting the scope of what was needed. It felt really good to be able to discern the mansplain, and decide and complete the project myself
Now I can have the trades guy drywall and trim. No sanding drywall for me.

This summer should be physical therapy (shoulder/neck) and possibly foot surgery to relieve a bunion. Been putting that off, too. I have no plans to do much of anything - besides paint pictures.

The manager of the door department at Lowe's was very impressed with my work! Many photos shown. (Had to get drip edge and more flashing, we started talking about installation). Ta daaaaa.
- It would have been thousands to have their team do this... Obvious by the reaction she had.

Trades guy was NOT happy I set the door... ... ... although he said I did a VERY good job. Since he is a interior carpenter by trade, mostly new construction, I will give him a bit of a pass about the
trim siding/add casing technique. He never watches "This old House".

He was coming over to see "how" to take off siding - (Jesus, he was just STUCK on that idea). He is bringing "Dan" with him today to help button up/ drywall and set trim. I told him "Dan" better NOT rip out any of the siding - square/shim/secure door trim out - that is it.
Even though I was very humble and polite about this -- I think he felt a bit put off that I SHOWED them how I wanted it done - and proved him (them) incorrect.

Apparently, "Dan" is still focused on siding. really, this project should have been tackled from the inside out anyway. Grrrrr.
Oh well. Can't be there, I have to admin SAT to Juniors.

Hopefully when I get home today, the excavation AND the majority of the trim jobs will be completed. We will see.

OH MY GaaaawdD!. My exterior excavators showed up when I was at work. They were supposed to insert new pipe lining (or worst case, "burst" the tile pipe with new, flexible pvc. This meant only one hole about 10 ft long needed to be dug.
I showed up and my entire front yard has 6 ft hills of dirt (boy, I have nice, sandy soil) EVERYWHERE. They decided on a complete rebuild of line from house to street, the most $$, worst case option. I was delighted because they promised to charge me no more for any issue they ran into! Ahahahahahahahaha! Estimated at least $10,000 - probably more like $12,000 in my area, I contracted for $3,500. Building inspector told me they did a really good job, too.

The patio slider wall got dry walled by my carpenter and the finish trim applied in basement. More than willing to let him finish the mudding and sanding.

Got the refi settled, funds transferred- then went to school to meet with a few more parents who want to sign their kids up for Paris/Rome next spring. All in all - finally I feel that things are coming together.
The excavation was just an overdue worry - big bucks potentially. The hacked off joist in the basement was a temporary fix - I had NO CLUE how to (code wise that is) permanently fix that issue - looks fantastic. - Could have been big bucks.
And the slider was in need, but not desperate need of replacement, and I dodged a bullet about the remodel of the interior support wall - now properly done- looking dapper.

What a relief.

You had a busy day! Knowing you have new pipe all the way to the street is probably a huge relief. It is another thing that's done so you dont have to worry. Plus, it is a big selling feature for the future.

Blair - Thank you. For some reason I can "see" a finished project when looking at an empty space. Like imagine it so well- a physical manifestation shows up. Apparently, this is rare, I thought everyone was like this.

It only does not work when I'm painting. OR very rarely. I never know what that will look like. weird. wierdo. weirdest.

Got the front yard sort of leveled, (4 hours raking "backwards") pulled my arm out. yeah. So I located a local man to simply rake up back/side yard. Guy shows up - younger than me, moving slow - he pulled a muscle in his back. Said he still wanted to try to work. F my life. Together we got it done in 2 hours, with yours truly spending extra hour picking up dog waste and limbo ing under deck for leaves... Every year I pay to have this done or get help, it is me that does this grin Always.

He needed the $. When he feels better, I have a few friends that will give him work, too.
Talked to "old resident" neighbor across way - asking him advice how his yard is so nice...he gave me the low down. For all your entertainment and info... grubx 1x a year, fertilize 4x. Random Sun/Shade seed mix.

That is all, return to your Sunday.

Nah. I was born with over active empathy gene. It simply feels natural (positive? healthy? normal?) to help others.
The good side is that there is no down side to being helpful, unless I let myself be taken advantage of. Then all those good feels can build up into resentment.

I don't tell people in person (or social media) about these things - sounds a lot like bragging to me. Fine line between posting things you have done and are proud of, and looking for compliments....
Maybe that's why I'm more prone to talk about these things here.

Trying to follow this thought; "Do good deeds, then forget about them." I had a huge, rare opportunity to encourage a kid yesterday - will keep that one to myself.

Well, hope everyone had a great Easter! I cooked and ate WAY too much food, but I had nice guests, mimosas and visiting. AND I got the few extra pounds to prove it.

Literally waiting for grass to grow (over new septic line). grin. I have officially hit the historic 5 year mark since bomb drop. The rumor I have heard is that even with severe trauma survivors, most people have a "set" level of happy/sad that they return to at the 5 year mark. I always wondered if that was true - and for the most part, for me, I think it has proven.
I'm still horribly scarred and sad most days, but my "wake up" emotion is basically a positive, hopeful mode.

Looking around the house for "things" that need fixing. I have got to stop that.

Naw, I doubt it. I have no education for that job.

Talk about no education! >derp. The side lawn hose outlet was not working. Since I had new copper plumbing put in, I hardly thought it was an issue with the interior water line. My dingus plumber left (and by that I mean re attached) the old (1950's) faucet on the outside on that side of the house.

Follow line, check, all shut off's (remember kids - Clock/Lock = clockwise to shut off) - Nothing, nada, no wata! grrrrr, grrrrr, Inside the house, off the same line, everything else worked. Brain freeze, brain freeze. HAD to be outside faucet, right? LSS (long story short) New outside faucet established after much rust removal, -- nothing..... .... .....much teeth gnashing.

-- Then I remember the rando fact the Home Depot guy said (fancy shut offs are 1/4 turn -- cheaper ones you have to turn many times.) Well, going back to the inside shut off. Counterclock, counterclock - nothing. I just remembered what he said; regular ones you have to turn many times- (this shut off was definitely a regular one) and I forced it - i'll be damned, it was just stuck. Fixed... and the benefit is I have a new outside fixture and much knowledge.

I'm going to redo my bathroom sink/countertop/faucet this week that my daughter flooded. (Long story there....) Normally I would not tackle plumbing.

Thank you for being brave and putting all your adventures out there for us to enjoy, encouraging some of us to remodel when we wouldn't otherwise. smile

Excellent opportunity to upgrade. Remember small upgrades can have huge punch. I’ll be thinking about you - positive juju headed your way. Under counter plumbing is not too tough. Leave access open for awhile to watch for slow drip. Red Rosen paper ( turns dark red when wet) excellent indicator.

Waiting for primer to dry... ... ... fixed the solenoid on the touch sink (wth, Delta, directions 10x harder then actual install) AND got the dishwasher back on track- new kitchen door wall, painting today... WuD? Kitchen almost into operational mode. It looks fantastic.
After the dust settles, I had sewer 100% rebuilt, new seed planted, new door wall, new hallway wallpaper/paint, two 8x8 support walls installed and painted, basement support Pilar’s covered in wood, new access doors in closet, fixed outside faucet, dishwasher sink (parts) for $6,300. That’s darned impressive. I was estimated $10k - $12 k for sewer rebuild alone. I’ll take it.
